In 1976 Eric Seepa, in his mid teens, set out to help repair, paint and varnish his brothers 26ft. yacht on weekends, this led to his fascination with wooden boats. Shortly thereafter many boaters noticing Eric’s quality of work began contacting him about having work done on their wooden boats, which led to full time employment at various marinas through the late 1970’s & 1980’s, gaining valuable experience in all aspects of wooden boat restoration, maintenance, haul out, blocking and launching of hundreds of boats. Eric’s first major restoration was in 1981 when he and a friend found a derelict grey wreck, 18ft. 1952 Shepherd, in an automobile scrap yard. The classic boat bug had bit Eric and he set out restoring the hull, decks and interior at a time when a boat in this condition would have been used for a bonfire (see photo on Welcome page).
In 1989 Eric and his wife Cherri started Classic Boat Restorations, beginning with mobile yacht service in the Orillia area. They built a workshop in 2002 to accommodate year round service. Being a small business they take pride in their work and pay special attention to detail, along with their customers needs and wishes. They strive to offer personalized and friendly service in their modern facility.Since February 1987, Eric’s work has appeared in numerous Canadian, American and German boating magazines such as Canadian Boating, DIY, Muskoka Life, Classic Boating and Boote (Europe’s major motor boat magazine). |
